Exploring Your Career Options
As a Trainer and Employment Navigator at Hired, Dominique assists our participants with exploring meaningful career options that will set them up for success. Read more below to find out how to use the Reality Tool to search for careers that mean something to you.
Hi! My name is Dominique Johnson (she/her), and I am a Trainer and Employment Navigator for Hired’s Youth Programs.
My main role is to facilitate a 5 week, cohort model, work readiness program- Corridors to Careers. I have been with Hired for over 2 years now, and the tool below is one I use often with my participants to help them see where they are at and where they want to be.
There are two ways that I like to facilitate this activity:
1. Where are you at right now?
Fill out your expenses/ responsibilities as of right now
2. Where would you like to be?
Fill out your expenses/ responsibilities that you would like to have in the future
Once you go through this tool, you will be prompted to choose career clusters that you would be interested in.
Examples: IT, Manufacturing, Finance, Health Science, Education and Training, etc.
Once you click one or more clusters, you can review the results
Additionally, you can view the different career clusters the education level, wages, and if it is a “hot” or fast-growing job.
I hope this tool helps you as much as it has helped my participants! If you have any questions on how to use the tool or need additional career assistance, contact us at information@hired.org.
Hired's Corridors to Careers (C2C) program provides youth who typically have limited exposure to professional careers with:
Exposure to careers in high demand industries and occupations such as transportation, construction, hospitality, IT, healthcare, and other industries as youth interest dictates
Durable and transferrable job skills training to position them for career success
Paid job experiences with Hired's partner employers in high-growth sectors.
The C2C program works with 75+ employer partners to connect participants with potential employment opportunities, such as St. Paul Parks and Recreation, Minnetronix, Catalyst Music, and many more. To learn more about Corridors to Careers, visit Hired’s Youth Services page.
