Olga's Story
In 2023, Olga, her husband and two teenage children immigrated to America, leaving behind her parents and sister in pursuit of new opportunities.
Adjusting to America has had its share of challenges, but Olga and her family have been pleasantly surprised by how helpful neighbors and other connections have been. “People are very friendly here, they always had a smile on their face. We were not used to that!”
“I remember when my counselor called me. It was an unexpected surprise! She helped a lot,” Olga shared. In addition to reliable communication and life stability supports like gas and grocery gift cards from her MFIP counselor, Olga was introduced to a career trainer who helped her enroll in tax keeping and bookkeeping courses. In Russia, Olga had already established a 20-year career as the equivalent of a CPA in Russia, but the move to America meant that her credentials needed to be established. With Hired’s support, Olga has been able to retake courses and certifications.
Coming to Hired changed her perspective on her career possibilities after immigrating. “My perspective of immigrants was that they would become only nannies or housekeepers. I have learned that you can learn what you want at any age.”
In the future, Olga hopes to pass her CPA exam and continue working a fulfilling career doing what she enjoys - math. “My family is very happy for me,” she proudly shares.
