The Happiness in Our Humanity
There is an abundance of joy around me
And even though there are things in this world that confound me/
I know this to be true.
I know this to be true.
In the darkness of struggle those that seek the light often find
It in the happiness of their humanity.
We ask of you…Join in on the reverie,
Give of yourself, open your heart and provide room
so another can shatter the ceilings of circumstance
Allowing them the chance to dream with the moon as their
Destination.
Walk in lockstep with those that need the support along their life’s journey
If only for this moment where your strength covers their weakness
It’s the digging deep into the pockets of your humanity that exist to help color in happiness
So fathers and mothers can provide the perfect picture for their children so they
Can see the horizon as the finish line reborn again and again
It’s the bringing of the warmth of happiness to young people who feel alone in these streets
That much too often grow cold.
Everyone wants to feel as if they matter, as if their voice has resonance among the chatter
Of the world…those of us who’ve been availed the abundance of life have only recently
Felt the impact of this pandemic, when in fact it’s been endemic for years for those that Hired serves consistently.
Circumstances of their lives bleed basic needs and the only things illuminating their souls is the rhythm in their bones/as they dance amongst the rain, waiting for the pain to recede.
The Happiness in Our Humanity is written and performed by Sean G. Phillips. Sean is an employment counselor with Hired, as well as writer and artist. Sean has walked alongside and inspired hundreds of youth toward more promising futures. You can learn more about his artistic works on his website.
Look in the mirror, dig deep and ask “what have I done today so someone else can feel
seen and how can I see myself in them…Walk in their shoes for a moment, hold your
heart to your ear and listen…
Then ask yourself what you can do to help make their path no longer
paved in the hot coals of adversity, but, paved in the gold of goals because you’ve helped
shift the clouds above their head exposing life’s rainbows.
When you maximize the happiness in others humanity you
allow their light to shine on the path to abundance.
At that point you realize there is a happiness in our collective humanity
And at that point you realize part of the purpose
of your existence. That is to let others know they are worthy of….
An abundance of support
An abundance of joy
An abundance of knowing they are not alone.
An abundance of knowing someone cares.
The foundation of a great human community is
Built with small pebbles/each
bold enough to cause ripples in the ocean that race to the horizon
when thrown by a loving hand.
Look in the mirror (look in the mirror)
find the happiness in your humanity
And create abundant ripples of change.
We need you.
